Whitsunday Airport Shute Harbour is privately owned by the Armstrong family. Ross and Diane Armstrong are well known at WAVE owning three of the residential lots and in 2013 their magnificent Hanger Home on lot 31 was completed. Ross and Diane also own two helicopters a 407 and a R66, both Ross, Diane and their youngest son Xander are all helicopter pilots with Xander on his way for a commercial licence.
The Armstrong’s have been on many helicopter safaris all over Australia and regularly use their aircraft to travel from their property near Emerald to the Whitsundays. Ross and Diane have a vision to finish the airpark and create a community of like-minded people who simply enjoy the aviation lifestyle in one of the best locations in Australia.
The Airport incorporates a 1,410 metre asphalt runway with dual taxiway with full services of Avgas and Jet A1, as well as ample parking for visiting aircraft.
Recently more than $20 million was spent at the Airport to create and include the “Whitsunday Aviation Village Estate”,WAVE.
This is Australia’s first fully integrated residential development situated within the Airport. Presently the estate includes 40 residential lots along the eastern side of the runway with further development approvals in place to add another 17 lots along the Western side northern end of the runway. The Airport is also home to a number of key commercial Whitsunday General Aviation businesses and Aviation Tourism business.
Whitsunday Airport is also home to GSL Aviation, CQ Adventure Flights, HeliTours, Helibiz, Beaver Bar and Cafe, Skydive the Beach and Beyond, Air Whitsunday Seaplanes, Airlie Beach Swim School by Danielle as well as Whitsunday Secure Parking Pty Ltd.
